Background

Dr Bayram Guliyev is a renowned historian and senior lecturer at our university. He holds a BA (2004-2008), MA (2011-2013) and PhD in History from Baku State University. He defended his doctoral dissertation in 2018 under the supervision of Prof. Zabil Bayramli on “Azerbaijani Culture of the Ilkhanid Period in English-language Historiography”.

He has an academic background in history, with teaching experience at Baku State University and Khazar University, where he delivered courses such as History of Azerbaijan, Sources of Azerbaijani History in Persian, Kitabi Dede Korkut as a Historical Source, and Ethnogenesis of the Azerbaijani People. He also worked at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences as a researcher and later as a department head (2019-2022).

Research Interests

His research focuses on medieval Azerbaijani history, historiography and source studies, particularly Persian-language sources, the Ilkhanid period and cultural history. His work also incorporates micro-analytical approaches, including use-wear (traceological) analysis and experimental archaeology to examine material culture and production contexts. He is the author of 4 books and over 50 academic articles, including Source Studies and Historiography of the History of Medicine in Azerbaijan (2019), Kitabi Dede Korkut and Its Turkmen Sahara Manuscript (2020), History of Science and Culture of Azerbaijan in the 13th-15th Centuries (2022) and Persian-language Sources of Azerbaijani History (2023).
