This course trains students to work professionally with primary historical sources and to assess the reliability of information through systematic analysis. Students learn to classify sources, evaluate credibility, and apply appropriate methods for verifying historical data from the earliest periods to the present. The course addresses key problems in Azerbaijani and world source studies, including challenges of interpretation, correction and translation, and methods for resolving them. Students also develop the ability to select sources that fit a specific topic and to evaluate extracts both individually and in a broader context, learning how to approach sources in different formats, including inscriptions, manuscripts, electronic materials and oral sources, with appropriate scholarly standards.
