School of Medicine and Health Sciences

Our history

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Qarabağ University was established at a historic moment in the redevelopment of the Karabakh region.

Established by Presidential Decree in 2024 and launched in 2025, the Faculty was designed from the outset to align with international standards in medical and health professions education.

From its inception, the Faculty has been developed in close alignment with the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) 2020 Global Standards, with a curriculum shaped by competency-based education, systems thinking, and structured program design.

Conceptualized as a next-generation academic health institution, KUFMHS integrates a competency-based, community-oriented, learner-centered, and integrated spiral curriculum. The Faculty also emphasizes interprofessional education, early and longitudinal clinical experience, digital and simulation-based learning, and structured governance and quality assurance.

In its inaugural year, all 100 seats were filled. Among medical and nursing programs nationwide, the Faculty ranked second in entrance scores. The minimum score was 614, and 495 out of 700 in Medicine and Nursing programs respectively. Today, KUFMHS represents how academic rigor and national commitment can come together to build institutional excellence.

KUFMHS is more than a conventional faculty. We aim to help set a new academic standard for health professions education in Azerbaijan and the wider region.
