Karabakh University was established in the city of Khankendi under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev on November 28, 2023 (Decree No. 4182).
The date of the decree holds symbolic significance: 50 years earlier, on November 28, 1973, the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute’s branch in Khankendi was founded at the initiative of Heydar Aliyev.
