Sabina Jafarzade
Background
In 2023, Dr. S.Jafarzadeh was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Bioecology. She is currently pursuing postdoctoral research in Microbiology at the Molecular Biology Institute under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Dr. Jafarzadeh has extensive teaching and research experience at leading higher education institutions in Azerbaijan, including Baku State University, Western Caspian University, and the Institute of Botany and Microbiology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. She is the author of more than 70 scientific publications, including monographs, and has participated in numerous research projects.
Her research focuses on the ecological and biotechnological properties of bioactive compounds derived from extremophilic organisms and their biomedical applications. She is also a recipient of the “Main Grant Competition – 2025” from the Azerbaijan National Foundation for Scientific Research (ANF).
Regarding international experience, in Germany, she served as the project leader for research on methanogenic communities within a collaborative project. She has also participated in 15 international projects under the EU Horizon and COST programs, focusing on antimicrobial resistance (One Health approach), agricultural microbiomes, sustainable energy, antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections, and the green economy.
She has gained experience at various universities in Turkey (Istanbul University, Haliç University, Beykent University, Nişantaşı University, Altınbaş University, İzmir Demokrasi University) through training programs in biophysics, molecular biology, and medical microbiology; in Poland (IBL–Instytut Badawczy Leśnictwa, 3DForEcoTech); in Germany (ZALF–Berlin & Müncheberg, Root Benefit); in Albania (EURESTOP WG Meeting); and in Georgia (Sokhumi State University – Scientific National Academy of Abkhazia NLP), participating in EU-funded international training programs and conferences.
