Elective - Block 4
Course Description
This course focuses on the molecular mechanisms that govern the structure, function, and regulation of biological systems. Students study the organization and properties of nucleic acids, the processes of DNA replication, transcription, and translation, and the molecular basis of gene expression and its regulation. Additional topics include chromosome structure, genome organization, molecular mutations, DNA repair mechanisms, and the technologies used to analyze and manipulate genetic material.
The course also highlights the relationship between molecular processes and cellular function, emphasizing how molecular biology contributes to advances in biotechnology, genetics, medicine, and evolutionary research. Through theoretical instruction and integrative learning activities, students develop a strong foundation in molecular-level biological processes and gain the skills needed to apply these concepts in scientific and pedagogical contexts.
