Gunel Azizova
Background
Gunel Azizova was born in 1996 in Sumgait, Azerbaijan. She received her early musical education at the Gara Garayev Children’s Music School in Sumgait and later continued her studies at the 11-year Music School No. 35 named after G. Sharoyev in Baku. In 2015, she was admitted to the Uzeyir Hajibeyli Baku Music Academy.
She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Musicology in 2019 (thesis on polyphonic features in Niyazi’s “Rast” Symphonic Mugham) and her Master’s degree in Music Theory in 2021 (thesis on the violin transcription of M. Umudov’s Concerto for Tar and Symphony Orchestra), both with distinction under Professor Elnara Dadashova.
Azizova is the recipient of several academic awards, including first place in national essay competitions dedicated to prominent Azerbaijani composers. She has participated in international scientific conferences and contributed as a translator to the three-volume publication “Azerbaijani Performing Art: Pages of History.”
She has worked as a laboratory assistant at the Baku Music Academy and as a music theory teacher. Since 2024, she has been serving as an Academic Advisor, and since 2025 also as a lecturer, at the Faculty of Arts of Karabakh University, actively contributing to academic and cultural initiatives.
