Course Description
This course develops students’ ability to understand the fundamental elements of musical language, as well as its structural and developmental principles, on a scientific and theoretical basis. In the initial stage of the course, students are introduced to the basic concepts of elementary music theory, including the sound system, notation, rhythm, meter, intervals, modes (scales), tonality, and principles of melodic and harmonic structure.
In the subsequent stages, students become acquainted with the fundamentals of harmony and counterpoint, learning to apply theoretical knowledge to the construction of musical texture, polyphonic thinking, and the analysis of chord progressions. The Music Theory course aims not only to provide theoretical knowledge but also to develop analytical thinking, creative musical perception, and the ability to understand musical structure during performance.
