Course Description

This course develops students’ ability to comprehend the fundamental elements of musical language, as well as its structural and developmental principles, on a scholarly and theoretical basis. In the initial stage of the course, students are introduced to the core concepts of elementary music theory, including the sound system, musical notation, rhythm, meter, intervals, modes (scales), tonality, and the principles of melodic and harmonic structure.

Subsequently, students become acquainted with the fundamentals of harmony and counterpoint, learning to apply theoretical knowledge in the construction of musical texture, the development of polyphonic thinking, and the analysis of chord progressions. The music theory course fosters not only theoretical competence but also analytical thinking, creative reasoning, and the ability to structurally perceive musical works during performance.
