Course Description

This course is designed to develop professional performance skills in Azerbaijani mugham art for students specializing in traditional vocal performance (khananda singing). Within the instructional framework, students systematically study the performance characteristics of mugham dastgahs, rhythmic mughams, tasnifs, and folk melodies.
Through this course, students develop proper use of the vocal apparatus, breathing techniques, intonation accuracy, ornamentation, and improvisational skills. By understanding the modal–intonational structure, developmental logic, and expressive potential of mughams, students learn to apply these elements in accordance with the principles of national performance style.
The instructional process also emphasizes ensemble coordination with instrumental accompaniment, effective emotional and expressive communication during performance, stage behavior, and professional ethics of the khananda. In addition, students are prepared for concerts and mugham evenings, with continuous training focused on live performance culture and stage experience.
