In 1976 -1979 and from 1984 to 1990, he worked at the Institute of Cybernetics of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, holding the positions of Junior Researcher, Senior Researcher, and Head of Sector. 

In  January 1984 successfully defended his dissertation for the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences in the speciality "Mathematical Cybernetics".

In the 1990, he was one of the principal members of the Commission for Computerization of the Republic and actively participated in the preparation of Textbooks and Teaching Materials on Informatics. 

From 1990 to 1997, he continued his pedagogical activity as an associate professor at the Department of Mathematical Cybernetics of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics of Baku State University. At the same time, in 1992-1995, he was the director (one of the first founding directors) of the Technical and Humanities Lyceum No. 2 named after Habibbey Mahmudbeyov, established as the first Lyceum in Azerbaijan, where Academician Azad Mirzajanzadeh was the honorary director and founder.

From 1997 to 2024, he continued his scientific and pedagogical activity at Ege University in Izmir, Turkey (as a professor since 2005). Since September 2024, he has been working at the Faculty of Engineering of Karabakh University, which started operating in Khankendi.

During his work in Turkey, 28 Master's theses (four of which are foreign citizens: Kazakhstan, Iran and 2 Azerbaijanis) and 25 Doctoral theses (PhD) (one of which is an Azerbaijani citizen) have been completed under his leadership. The completed theses are in the fields of Operations Research, Cryptography, Bioinformatics, Industry-4.0, and Smart Education Systems.

Together with his students and colleagues, he has published more than 100 articles in the field of Computer Mathematics and presented more than 100 conference reports. He is a member of the scientific and organizational committees of 37 international and 1 national conferences, the Editorial Board of 1 international and 2 national journals and the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal “Journal of Modern Technology and Engineering (http://jomardpublishing.com/journals.aspx?lang=en).
