Course Description
This course introduces students to the rich and diverse field of children’s literature, focusing on genre study, critical analysis, and the role of literature in childhood. Classic and contemporary works — including picture books, nature-themed stories, poetry, fables, and popular science texts for children — are examined within a context of cultural diversity. Emphasis is placed on the features of quality children’s literature and its contribution to literacy, language development, and socio-emotional growth. Through readings, discussions, and projects, future language teachers learn to evaluate, select, and effectively use children’s literature in the classroom. The course also covers storytelling techniques, thematic analysis, cross-curricular integration, and strategies for fostering a love of reading among young learners.
