Course Description
This course introduces the fundamental concepts of how solid bodies deform and resist internal forces. The curriculum focuses on the analysis of stress and strain, axial loading, and the mechanical properties of engineering materials. Students explore the effects of torsion on circular shafts and the internal shear and bending moments in beams. The course emphasizes the principle of superposition and the calculation of deformations under various loading conditions. By the end of the semester, students will be capable of determining the structural integrity of simple components and ensuring they satisfy strength and stiffness requirements in engineering designs.
