Course Description
This course examines the development of world music culture from ancient times to the modern era. At the same time, it provides students with systematic knowledge of music as a social, cultural, and artistic phenomenon. The musical traditions of ancient civilizations, as well as the development of religious and secular music, are explored.
The course studies the emergence of written musical sources and the formation of polyphony during the Middle Ages. The expansion of musical genres, enrichment of expressive means, and the development of orchestral culture during the Renaissance and Baroque periods are analyzed. The Classical period is examined in terms of the systematization of musical language and the stabilization of artistic harmony.
During the Romantic era, individual expression, emotional depth, and national stylistic characteristics are analyzed. Twentieth-century music is studied through new compositional techniques, stylistic diversity, and experimental approaches. In the modern period, the interaction of music with technology, media, and globalization is also considered.
The course enables students to understand the main stages of music history, as well as changes in genres and styles, through a comparative analytical approach.
