Course Description

This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts, purposes, and societal role of education. It examines the philosophical, social, psychological, and pedagogical foundations of teaching and learning, while exploring key milestones in the history of education, Enlightenment ideas, modern educational policies, and curriculum approaches.
Students analyze the role of teachers as professionals, develop an understanding of educational values, inclusivity, and equity, and begin forming their own professional identity. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, reflective practice, and a deep understanding of education as a dynamic social institution.
