Course Description
This course examines international and regional organizations, including the United Nations, with attention to their emergence, development, classification and operational mechanisms and to their role in the international system and in global governance. Students study both traditional and non-traditional organizations, including humanitarian bodies, international nongovernmental organizations and transnational networks, analyzing their political, economic, cultural and security-oriented activities, their decision-making mechanisms and integration processes at supranational levels. The course adopts an Azerbaijan-centred perspective by examining how international organizations influence the country’s foreign policy, regional stability and participation in global initiatives, while also evaluating the continuity of institutional memory and multi-level governance structures. Students analyze the strategic importance of international organizations in conflict resolution, human rights protection, promotion of sustainable development and the formation of collective security systems, combining theory and practice to understand interdependence, decision-making processes and institutional mechanisms in international politics.
