Background

Dr. Lala Mammadova is a PhD in Law and a lecturer specializing in criminal procedure. She holds a BA (2004-2008) and MA (2008-2010) in Law from Baku State University, where she graduated with distinction, specializing in criminal law, criminal procedure, criminalistics and forensic expertise. She completed her PhD (2011-2014) in Criminal Procedure, Criminalistics and Operational-Search Activity, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Sciences (DSc) degree (2021-2026).

She has an extensive academic background, having worked at the Faculty of Law of Baku State University since 2010. She combines teaching with active research and has taught a wide range of courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including Criminal Procedural Law, Judicial System of Azerbaijan, Law Enforcement Agencies, Court Supervision, Advocacy, Contemporary Issues of Preliminary Investigation, International Criminal Procedure, and International Criminal Tribunals. She has also delivered specialized courses within the SABAH groups. Since 2025, she has been affiliated with our university.

Research Interests

Her research focuses on key issues of criminal procedural law, including special proceedings in criminal justice, protection of human rights and freedoms in criminal proceedings, mechanisms for reopening cases based on newly discovered circumstances and international cooperation in criminal justice. She defended her PhD dissertation in 2016 on “Procedural Peculiarities in Criminal Proceedings Concerning Certain Categories of Persons in the Republic of Azerbaijan”. She is the author of one monograph, one textbook, one methodological guide, four curricula and over 50 academic articles, many indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. Her recent publication includes “Procedural Peculiarities in Criminal Proceedings Concerning Certain Categories of Persons in the Republic of Azerbaijan” (textbook, 2025).
