Course Description

Within the framework of this course, students develop systematic scholarly knowledge of the stages of emergence, formation, and development of Azerbaijani musical culture, as well as the ability to gain an in-depth understanding of the historical and cultural foundations of national musical traditions. Students become acquainted with the musical heritage formed in ancient and medieval periods, the scholarly legacy of prominent researchers and musicologists in this field, and the traditions of court and folk music culture.

During the instructional process, students explore the formation of professional Azerbaijani music, the historical development of the mugham tradition, the genre and formal characteristics of folk music, the stages of national composers’ creative output, and the key directions in the development of musical education and enlightenment.
