His doctoral research, entitled “Mineralogical and Anthropogenic Control on the Chemistry of River Waters in the Eastern Greater Caucasus: Evidence from the Girdiman River,” examines the natural and human-induced factors influencing river water chemistry in mountainous environments.

Anar Abtalibov began his scientific career in 2016 at the Institute of Geography named after Academician H.A. Aliyev of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. He initially served as a Senior Laboratory Technician and later advanced to the position of Engineer. During this period, he contributed to multiple research projects and was actively involved in the preparation and compilation of thematic maps.

At the Master’s level, he defended his thesis entitled “Analysis of the Impact of Mud Volcanoes on the Ecogeosystem of the Gobustan–Absheron Physical–Geographical Region,” earning the degree of Master of Science.

He is a member of the Geological Society of London (2025), the European Association of Geochemistry (2025), the European Geosciences Union (since 2023), and the Azerbaijan Geographical Society (since 2018).
