Course Description
This course examines the historical development of the global political system and the major stages in the evolution of international relations. Beginning with political interactions among ancient and medieval states, students trace the emergence of early diplomacy and the foundations of international law. The course analyzes key global processes of the modern era, including the European revolutions, colonialism and imperialism, the two World Wars, the Cold War, and its geopolitical consequences. Students compare the domestic and foreign policies of different states, investigate the factors shaping political ideologies, and explore the formation of international alliances and political orders. The course also addresses transformations in the contemporary international system and the shifting dynamics of global power.
