Course Description
This course surveys major political, social, and economic developments from the late 19th century to the present. Key topics include the Second Industrial Revolution, imperialism, the First and Second World Wars, the interwar crisis, and the rise of fascism and totalitarianism. Students examine the postwar international order, the Cold War, U.S.–Soviet rivalry, decolonization in Asia and Africa, and the emergence of new global institutions. The course also addresses recent historical transformations, including the collapse of the Soviet Union, globalization, shifting power dynamics, Middle East conflicts, and contemporary security challenges. Students gain the ability to analyze modern global changes and understand their significance within broader historical processes.
