Course Description
This course focuses on the behavior of structures subjected to time-varying loads, such as wind, earthquakes, and machinery vibrations. The curriculum covers single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) and multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) systems, exploring concepts of free and forced vibrations, damping, and resonance. Students learn to apply D'Alembert's principle and Duhamel's integral to determine structural responses. The course emphasizes modal analysis and seismic design considerations for buildings and bridges. By the end of the semester, students will be capable of analyzing the dynamic integrity of structures to ensure safety against oscillatory forces and extreme environmental events.
