Course Description
This course provides an in-depth study of soils as a key component of the Earth’s natural environment and geographic systems. It examines soil formation processes (pedogenesis), physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils, and their spatial distribution across different climatic and biogeographical zones. Students explore the relationships between soils, climate, relief, vegetation, and parent material, as well as the influence of human activities on soil development and degradation. The course also introduces major soil classification systems and soil mapping techniques. Applied topics include soil erosion, salinization, desertification, soil fertility, and sustainable soil management. Through case studies and practical exercises, students develop the ability to analyze soil–land use interactions and assess soil resources for environmental planning and agricultural sustainability.
