Course Description
This course explores the modernization of traditional electrical grids through the integration of advanced digital communication and control technologies. The curriculum covers bidirectional energy flow, real-time monitoring, and the integration of renewable energy sources. Students study smart metering, wide-area measurement systems (WAMS), and demand-side management. The course emphasizes grid stability, cybersecurity for energy infrastructure, and energy storage solutions. By the end of the semester, students will understand how to design resilient, efficient, and sustainable power networks capable of responding dynamically to changes in energy supply and demand.
