Course Description
This course provides a detailed study of the devices used to interface digital control systems with the physical world. The curriculum focuses on the principles of transduction, covering various sensors for measuring temperature, pressure, displacement, and acceleration. Students explore the operation of different actuators, including DC motors, solenoids, and pneumatic valves, which convert electrical or fluid energy into mechanical motion. The course emphasizes signal conditioning, calibration, and the integration of sensing and actuation in closed-loop control systems. By the end of the semester, students will be capable of selecting appropriate transducers for specific engineering tasks and designing the hardware interfaces necessary for industrial automation, robotics, and smart monitoring systems.
