Course Description
This course builds a strong scientific foundation for investigating international and social realities by teaching the principles of scientific thinking and analytical inquiry and by training students to uncover cause-and-effect relationships behind social phenomena. Students learn to examine human behaviour, social processes, and political decisions in a critical and systematic manner, while understanding how knowledge is produced in the social sciences and how research is designed from planning to completion. Through practical examples, the course shows how research questions are formulated, how data are collected and analyzed, and how findings are presented, enabling students to understand the research process in depth. Students compare research traditions, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed approaches, learning the strengths and limitations of each and how to select appropriate methods for specific goals. Ethical principles are emphasized throughout, including the researcher’s position and social responsibility, so students gain not only theoretical knowledge but also a thoughtful and reflective scientific approach. By the end, students are prepared not only to conduct academic research but also to analyze real-world arguments and social problems with evidence, think with facts, and propose informed solutions, making the course a foundational pillar for future diplomats, politicians, educators and researchers.
