Course Description
This course focuses on the principles and devices used to safeguard electrical networks from faults and abnormalities. The curriculum covers the operation of protective relays, circuit breakers, and instrument transformers. Students analyze fault types, including short circuits and overloads, and learn to design protection schemes for generators, transformers, and transmission lines. The course emphasizes coordination, selectivity, and the transition from analog to digital numerical relays. By the end of the semester, students will be able to ensure system reliability and minimize equipment damage through effective protective system design.
