Course Description
This course introduces the sound system of English, including its phonetic and phonological units and their articulatory and acoustic features. It examines the classification of vowels and consonants, as well as the role of stress, intonation, rhythm, and prosody in spoken communication. Emphasis is placed on how phonetic and phonological norms contribute to accurate pronunciation and clear, fluent communication. Students learn to read and produce phonetic transcriptions, use appropriate intonation patterns, and apply phonological rules in both spoken and written English.
