Course Description
This course explores the mathematical principles and computational algorithms used to find the best possible solution to a problem under given constraints. The curriculum focuses on linear programming, including the Simplex method and duality theory. Students investigate non-linear optimization techniques, such as gradient descent, Newton's method, and Lagrange multipliers for constrained problems. The course emphasizes the formulation of objective functions and the analysis of global versus local extrema. By the end of the semester, students will be capable of modeling complex decision-making processes in logistics, structural design, and machine learning, ensuring they can optimize resource allocation and system performance in various engineering and scientific contexts.
