Course Description
This course examines the development of world music culture from ancient times to the contemporary period. It provides students with systematic knowledge of music as a social, cultural, and artistic phenomenon. The course explores the musical traditions of ancient civilizations, as well as the development of religious and secular music practices.
The emergence of written musical sources and the formation of polyphony in the Middle Ages are studied in detail. The course analyzes the expansion of musical genres, the enrichment of expressive means, and the development of orchestral culture during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Particular attention is given to the Classical era, focusing on the systematization of musical language and the stabilization of artistic harmony.
The Romantic period is examined through the lens of individual expression, emotional depth, and national stylistic characteristics. The course also addresses twentieth-century music, highlighting new compositional techniques, stylistic diversity, and experimental trends. In addition, contemporary music is considered in relation to technology, media, and globalization.
Overall, the course enables students to develop a comparative understanding of the main stages of music history, as well as the evolution of musical genres and styles.
