Course Description

This course examines the development of world music culture from ancient times to the contemporary period. It also provides students with systematic knowledge of music as a social, cultural, and artistic phenomenon. The musical traditions of ancient civilizations, as well as the development of religious and folk music, are explored.

The course studies the emergence of written musical sources and the formation of polyphony in the Middle Ages. The expansion of musical genres, the enrichment of expressive means, and the development of orchestral culture during the Renaissance and Baroque periods are analyzed. The Classical era is examined in terms of the systematization of musical language and the stabilization of artistic harmony.

The Romantic period, individual expression, emotional depth, and national stylistic characteristics are analyzed. Twentieth-century music is studied through new compositional techniques, stylistic diversity, and experimental trends. In the contemporary era, the interaction of music with technology, media, and globalization is examined.

The course enables students to understand the main stages of music history, as well as changes in musical genres and styles, through a comparative and analytical approach.
