Course Description
This course provides a systematic study of Azerbaijani Mugham, including historical and theoretical foundations and performance traditions. It covers the mode–intonation system, maqam structure, section sequences, melodic development, rhythmic and metric features, and genre classification (dastgah, zarbi mugham, tasnif, reng, etc.). Students analyze Mugham examples through listening and practical reading, study regional performance styles, vocal and instrumental interpretation, and methods for integrating Mugham into pedagogical practice. The course develops skills to understand Mugham scientifically, recognize Mugham elements in musical texts, and apply knowledge in performance, musicology research, and school music teaching.
