Course Description
This course offers a structured study of diplomacy as a central instrument for regulating international relations, covering its historical evolution, contemporary purposes, and key concepts and processes. Students examine both traditional and new forms of diplomacy and analyze how diplomatic practice adapts and transforms in changing international environments shaped by globalization, information technology, and security challenges, with particular attention to the post bipolar period. The course covers the distinctive features of bilateral and multilateral diplomacy and develops practical skills in diplomatic etiquette, speech culture, and professional conduct during meetings, receptions, negotiations, and visits. Students also study the structure, functions, and powers of institutions that conduct diplomacy through comparative analysis, including the diplomatic practices of different regions and states and Azerbaijan’s experience. The course strengthens students’ ability to use relevant literature and system resources effectively, work with diplomatic documentation, and prepare diplomatic texts, forming professionals who can think, analyze, and apply diplomatic tools in contemporary international affairs.
