Elective - Block 2
Course Description
This course explores the principles of design, fabrication, and characterization of systems at the micro and nano scales. The curriculum focuses on Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS), Nanotechnology, and the unique physical phenomena that occur at reduced dimensions, such as surface tension and quantum effects. Students study cleanroom fabrication techniques, including lithography, etching, and thin-film deposition. The course emphasizes the integration of sensors and actuators into compact, high-performance devices for medical, automotive, and telecommunications applications. By the end of the semester, students will be capable of modeling small-scale physical interactions and designing sophisticated micro-systems that offer enhanced sensitivity, lower power consumption, and increased functional density.
