Course Description
This course focuses on the process of transforming real-world phenomena into mathematical equations to analyze, predict, and optimize system behavior. The curriculum covers the entire modeling cycle, including problem identification, assumption formulation, and model validation. Students explore various modeling approaches, such as deterministic vs. stochastic models, discrete vs. continuous systems, and linear vs. non-linear dynamics. The course emphasizes the use of differential equations, graph theory, and statistical tools to represent physical, biological, and socio-economic processes. By the end of the semester, students will be capable of constructing robust models, performing sensitivity analysis, and interpreting numerical results to provide actionable insights for complex engineering and scientific challenges, bridging the gap between abstract theory and practical application.
