Course Description
This course focuses on the systematic process of designing and selecting machine elements to ensure functional reliability, safety, and efficiency. The curriculum covers the analysis of stress, strain, and deflection in components such as shafts, gears, bearings, springs, and fasteners. Students explore various design philosophies, including factor of safety, material selection, and failure theories under static and cyclic loading. The course emphasizes the integration of individual components into complex mechanical systems while considering manufacturability and cost. By the end of the semester, students will be capable of applying engineering principles to design robust machine parts that withstand real-world operational demands, bridging the gap between abstract mechanics and physical hardware.
