Course Description
This course is aimed at developing students’ knowledge, analytical skills, and practical performance abilities through the study of selected jazz standards that form the foundation of the world jazz heritage. The instructional process examines the harmonic language of jazz, melodic structure, rhythmic–metric features, foundational models for improvisation, jazz phrasing, and performance interpretation based on standard repertoire examples.
Within the framework of the course, students acquire practical skills such as reading jazz standards from notation and by ear, identifying harmonic progressions (II–V–I progressions, blues cadences, modal models, etc.), performing thematic material according to stylistic criteria, and constructing basic improvisational sketches.
The course also supports general preparation for the pedagogical selection of jazz repertoire and the application of jazz elements in secondary school and university-level music education practice.
