Course Description
This course examines the interdependence between global politics and economics and explains how international power relations are structured around economic interests and how economic motivations shape political decisions. Students study the structure and evolution of the world economic system, the nature of global economic problems and the political dimensions of international trade and its regulation. The course also covers the international labour market and the political-economic effects of migration, and examines forms and levels of international economic integration. Students analyze the role of international financial and economic organizations in global politics, the limits and opportunities for state manoeuvre under economic globalization and the use of economic instruments within foreign policy strategies. By evaluating interactions among states and economic actors over goods, services, capital and labour, students develop a grounded understanding of power, interests and resource distribution in the global system and strengthen their ability to analyze how economic and political dynamics shape international relations.
