Course Description
This course is aimed at developing theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the preservation, restoration, and repair of musical instruments, based on their structural design, material properties, and technical usage principles. Within the course, students study mechanical and acoustical issues affecting string, wind, and percussion instruments, including causes of wear, types of deformation, and appropriate restoration methods.
During the instructional process, the historical development of musical instruments, traditional and contemporary restoration techniques, and commonly used materials (such as wood, metal, leather, varnish, etc.) are examined, along with technical factors influencing sound quality. Through practical training, students apply fundamental diagnostic procedures, basic repair techniques, tuning, maintenance, and conservation methods.
