Course Description
This course examines the emergence and development of sociology as a discipline and its contribution to understanding historical and social transformation. Students study the intellectual foundations of sociological thought in response to major historical changes such as industrialization, urbanization, capitalism and political revolution. The course analyzes the ideas of key thinkers, including Auguste Comte, Karl Marx, Émile Durkheim and Max Weber, focusing on how their concepts explain social structure, power, class, culture and social change. By integrating sociological theory with historical processes, the course equips students with analytical tools to interpret societies comparatively and to understand the relationship between individuals, social institutions and historical dynamics.
