Course Description
This course continues the historical analysis of international relations from the aftermath of the First World War to the contemporary global system. Students examine the Versailles-Washington order, the formation and collapse of interwar security arrangements, and the establishment of the Yalta-Potsdam system. The course analyzes the ideological, military, and economic dimensions of the Cold War, including alliance formation, proxy conflicts, and the roles of NATO and the Warsaw Pact, as well as the influence of technological change on international politics. Special attention is given to post-Second World War reconstruction, the role of the United Nations, regional integration, the collapse of the bipolar system, and the challenges of globalization. The course develops historical and analytical thinking by presenting international relations as a dynamic system shaped by ideas, power, and strategic decision-making.
