Course Description
Through this course, students get acquainted with the foundations of writing history, the development of historical scholarship, and the main methods used by historians. Students learn how to select historical works appropriately and evaluate them according to genre, applying internal criticism and external criticism to assess argument, evidence, and credibility. The course familiarizes students with leading historians and with major works that influenced the direction of historical science, while also examining key problems in Azerbaijani historiography across different periods and how these issues shape practice. It emphasizes the social impact of historical writing and the importance of ethical principles in historical scholarship, including responsibility, integrity and methodological discipline in the modern world.
