Course Type
Elective - Block 4
Course Description
This course explores the principles and technologies involved in the generation, measurement, and application of high voltages. The curriculum covers the breakdown mechanisms in solids, liquids, and gases, alongside the design of insulation systems for power equipment. Students study the operation of Marx generators, Tesla coils, and high-voltage measuring devices like electrostatic voltmeters. The course emphasizes lightning protection, surge arresters, and non-destructive testing techniques for electrical grids. By the end of the semester, students will understand how to manage electrical stress and ensure the reliability of high-voltage transmission and distribution networks.
