Course Description
This course teaches the fundamental principles of Azerbaijani folk music, the maqam–intonation system, maqam structures, and historical development. It aims to help students understand Azerbaijani folk music not only as a practical performance but also as a systematic musical art. Based on Üzeyir Hacıbəyli’s scholarly perspectives, students analyze maqam structures, pitch series, and tetrachord systems. The course ensures the application of this knowledge in musicology research, composition, and pedagogical practice. One goal is to cultivate theoretical thinking and analytical skills in preserving and presenting national musical heritage within the context of global music culture.
