Course Description
This course focuses on the design and analysis of structural elements that transfer loads from a building to the ground. The curriculum covers the selection and sizing of shallow foundations, such as isolated footings and rafts, as well as deep foundations like piles and caissons. Students study soil bearing capacity, settlement analysis, and lateral earth pressure on retaining structures. The course emphasizes the interaction between the structure and the soil under various loading conditions. By the end of the semester, students will be capable of designing safe, economical, and stable foundation systems based on geotechnical reports and structural requirements.
