Course Type
Elective - Block 1
Course Description
This course provides a formal introduction to the mathematical theory behind statistical inference and data analysis. The curriculum focuses on the principles of point and interval estimation, the properties of estimators such as bias and efficiency, and the framework of hypothesis testing. Students explore the method of maximum likelihood, p-values, and the significance of various statistical tests like T-tests and Chi-square tests. The course emphasizes the transition from theoretical probability to practical data interpretation. By the end of the semester, students will be capable of constructing rigorous statistical models to analyze experimental results and validate engineering hypotheses with mathematical precision.
