Course Description
This course covers two major areas of biological science: evolution and ecology. The evolution component examines the origin of life, the historical development of living organisms, major evolutionary theories and mechanisms, population genetics, speciation, and the formation of biological diversity. Students learn to interpret evolutionary processes scientifically and understand the principles governing change and adaptation in living systems. The ecology component explores the structure and functioning of ecosystems, energy flow and nutrient cycles, interactions within populations and biotic communities, and the governing laws of the biosphere. It also addresses contemporary global environmental issues. The course promotes ecological awareness, responsible attitudes toward nature, and the ability to analyze ecological processes at different organizational levels.
