Course Description
This course provides a comprehensive study of the principles, construction, and operational characteristics of electromechanical energy conversion devices. The curriculum covers the fundamental theory of magnetic circuits, transformers, and the various types of rotating machines, including DC motors and generators, induction motors, and synchronous machines. Students analyze equivalent circuits, torque-speed characteristics, and efficiency calculations for each machine type. The course also explores motor starting methods, speed control techniques, and the application of machines in industrial drives and power generation. Through integrated laboratory sessions, students gain hands-on experience in testing physical machines, performing load tests, and analyzing power flow. This knowledge is essential for designing and maintaining electrical power systems, industrial automation lines, and renewable energy infrastructures, providing the technical expertise required for heavy-current engineering roles.
