Course Description
This course explores the systems used to control the motion of electrical machines in industrial and automotive applications. The curriculum focuses on the integration of power electronics, control algorithms, and mechanical loads to achieve precise speed and torque regulation. Students study various drive topologies, including DC drives and variable frequency drives (VFDs) for induction and synchronous motors. The course emphasizes dynamic modeling, four-quadrant operation, and energy-efficient braking methods. By the end of the semester, students will be capable of designing and tuning advanced drive systems for applications ranging from robotics and electric vehicles to large-scale industrial conveyors and pump systems.
