Course Description
This course is aimed at studying the fundamental principles of polyphonic musical thinking and the laws governing the independent yet harmonically coordinated development of musical voices. Within the framework of the course, students acquire knowledge of the theoretical foundations of counterpoint, techniques of polyphonic writing, and mechanisms of interaction between melodic lines.
The instructional process explores the historical stages of counterpoint development, the rules of classical counterpoint, intervallic relationships, the use of consonance and dissonance, and polyphonic techniques such as imitation, canon, inversion, and stretto. At the same time, analytical work on examples from different stylistic periods enables students to understand and apply counterpoint techniques in practical compositional contexts.
